One of the first courses piloted in ClassActive is IT Governance, Risk and Controls (IT GRC) in the Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) at the Kelley School of Business. In fact, ClassActive was originally founded as a replacement for Professor Justin Greis’s class website. His website was a WordPress-based content management system with some interactive features such as forums, discussion boards and forms. The issue was: it created more work for Professor Greis (which defeats the purpose of using technology). Determined to create an easy-to-use, intuitive platform where students, faculty, teaching assistants and guests could collaborate on content and distribute course material, he created ClassActive.
The IT GRC course is focused on teaching students how to leverage a company’s investment in its technology to achieve its business and IT strategy. We do this by (1) analyzing the value that IT delivers, (2) the risks that IT manages and (3) the cost of providing service to the business. So, it was only fitting to create a high quality system that would ease the burden on both professor and student. Since this course is one of the first in pilot group, we will tweak and improve ClassActive functionality based on feedback from the students and the faculty.
